Somebody else has this problem?

I use Opera to browse Internet, and for some reason when I try to add a link tI can't do it. After I type the captcha gives a 404 error. I have put it here because I didn't know where else put it.

It's been so long since I've had to use the captchas that I don't know how they work any more. Can you replicate the error in your sandbox? --Robkelk (talk) 13:57, 8 April 2015 (BST)

Upload file option missing in the side bar?

Uploaded a file 2 days ago, after my rights were changed, but now the upload option is not available in the side bar; anything changed?? --Glaseye (talk) 16:29, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

One of the Miraheze System Administrators here: To prevent data loss during server maintenance, I intentionally disabled uploads. That maintenance is over since a few hours, so you can upload again. Southparkfan (talk) 21:40, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Direct links to zipped files?

I recently found that some downloads of Muskateer Graphics (mostly second skin superhero textures for V3/M3) have been preserved in the web archive. Unfortunately the site never had individual pages for each download, only a general index. Should I add a link to the index, or direct links to the sipped files? The same goes, for anything similar that I may find later. --AntonioCC (talk) 09:01, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

As long as people can reach the downloads, either way works. For examples, see Freebies hosted at 3DTrue (where the Wayback Machine links are to the index pages) and Freebies by Ness Period Reproductions (where the Wayback Machine links are directly to the zip files). My personal preference - not wiki policy - is to link straight to the zip. --Robkelk (talk) 13:07, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Okay, thanks.--AntonioCC (talk) 15:06, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Risky, nudity, sexual content pages (POLICY DECISION MADE)

What is the policy towards pages with pictures that contain nudity/are risky? There is a lot of Chibibel and Belbel content here: ... --Kerya (talk) 20 September 2016

Oh, yes - that site. When I was posting the ChibiBel list to the Daz3D forums, Chohole and I agreed to pretend that we just didn't notice it... but that isn't going to work on a wiki that anybody can edit.
We have some rules about making our own images, listed at Category:Page Needing Image. "No sexualization of minors" is the applicable one here. I think that we should be consistent.
Can we link directly to the downloads, or would that mean people don't see the license for the freebies? --Robkelk (talk) 12:12, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately there is no Readme included in the zips - so direct links would not see the licenses ... --Kerya (talk) 21 September 2016
Well, most of all I would go for a better safe then sorry option. Personally, I get the impression that some japanese(?) sites have content that can be questionable by european standards, or maybe even european law.... (Don't know about the law, 'standards' are of course a very subjective/personal matter). But in general, if anything can be looked upon as sexualization of minors, regardless if it is a fantasy character or not, I would say no links to the image/sitepage and the content..... Also better no links to the more 'suggestive' images. So that may mean if a direct download link is not possible, it would be best to not mention it at all...--Glaseye (talk) 19:45, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
Japanese sites, yes - there's a vastly different mindset in Japan with regard to seeing this sort of thing. I'm told that it's because of the post-WWII constitution imposed on the country by the Allies. The Japanese take the "freedom of speech" part of the constitution very seriously. (If parents don't want their children seeing something, they don't show it to their children.) In the Western world, we accept some limits on freedom of expression.
The law in Canada is clear in one respect: if the images on that site were on this wiki, I could go to jail. it is less clear whether making available the resources to create those images is against the law. As for mentioning that the resources exist and saying where they can be found ... I don't know.
I'm inclined to agree with Glaseye. --Robkelk (talk) 23:17, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
No problem - no links to pages with "no sexualization of minors. What about simple nudity of grownups? Could we get a sign like the direct download or paid for content? Maybe NSFW --Kerya (talk) 25 September 2016
That's easy enough, and it's already on my "to be done" list. --Robkelk (talk) 12:36, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

An icon like this??? Http:// Got a bigger version that can be scaled down if needed it his one is usable, but too small.... --Glaseye (talk) 23:14, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

That's a good icon for European work, but North American signs are different. --Robkelk (talk) 15:51, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
POLICY DECISION: We will not be listing anything from this website. I have asked our wiki host to add the URL to the "blocked sites" list - see for details.

--Robkelk (talk) 16:09, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Maybe delete the link (text) from this discussion page as well??
As to the icon, I see your point... Do you still need an icon? (got another one that I think is more international, based on the 'stop' sign)
Or do you already have something better? --Glaseye (talk) 16:54, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm still thinking about that. We can use stop-sign logo for now, and replace it if we come up with something better. --Robkelk (talk) 13:21, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Could somebody who does not have administrator rights try to add that link to a page here, please? --Robkelk (talk) 13:21, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

I could add that link to the Limited Time freebie page (going fast section), and it worked. removed it again. If you want me to try again (not deleting the link) just say so.. --Glaseye (talk) 13:52, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
As for the stop sign logo, should I upload it? --Glaseye (talk) 13:54, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
I can see the blacklist, the link as visible there (to me) is not a working link, but not that difficult to determin what the real link is.... --Glaseye (talk) 14:05, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Repeating what I said before the wiki crashed... I'm still thinking about what might work as a good logo. Sure, upload the NSFW icon - we can change it if we come up with something better. --Robkelk (talk) 22:43, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Done NSFW.png --Glaseye (talk) 16:06, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
Still working on the blacklist?? --Glaseye (talk) 16:09, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
That's on hold until the other wiki problems are sorted out. --Robkelk (talk) 13:12, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

Input wanted, please. Which image is better, Glaseye's stop-sign or this one that I finally had time to make? NSFW-CB.png --Robkelk (talk) 01:22, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

I think Glaseye's image is a clear comment on what will happen if you click on the link but your image is just to darn cute. Anyway you could incorporate the two? Get both the cuteness and the danger sign? --Dollygirl (talk) 12:37, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
It took me a while to make a decision. (Granted, nobody was pushing me to decide... but I still should have decided earlier that I did.) Glaseye's image is the icon, while my image is on the description page. --Robkelk (talk) 01:59, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

New "welcome" page - please add to it if you have time

We have a new page, intended for new editors: Notes for new editors. It's still a work in progress, which is why I haven't linked to it from the Main Page yet.

Some parts say "THIS NEEDS AN ANSWER" - if you have an answer, feel free to add it.

If I missed a question, feel free to add it.

--Robkelk (talk) 19:43, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm not really useful for this... guess I'm one of those person that not always do things the way they should be done, but doing it the way they can be done (by me LoL).. --Glaseye (talk) 23:10, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

You used to have a sample page for a new page where did it go? --Dollygirl (talk) 04:00, 1 November 2016 (UTC) --Kerya (talk) 01 November 2016

Links to download pages?

I mean links to pages like mega or mediafire. I recently found that somebody had mirrored the old JamesJAB V4 Asari headpiece on mediafire, and I wanted to know if there is a problem to link it here. Thank you. AntonioCC (talk) 16:59, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

As long as it's a legal download, the host doesn't matter. (I'm not happy about how MediaFire doesn't allow saving in the Wayback Machine, but that has nothing to do with this wiki.) --Robkelk (talk) 18:45, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Okay, thanks.AntonioCC (talk) 18:47, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

What to do with a freebie that is under two different names?

Esample: is under Wolf Medallion for Daz Genesis3 Freebie here: Is there something like a cross reference? --Kerya (talk) 23 March 2017

Yes, it's called a "redirect". Pick one name for the page that describes the freebie and make that page normally. Make a second page with the second name and put only the redirect code on that page.
Since we already have the page "Hunter Medallion for Genesis 3 Male and Female", the page "Wolf Medallion for Daz Genesis3 Freebie" would say only #REDIRECT[[Hunter Medallion for Genesis 3 Male and Female]]. It's very important that the word REDIRECT be in all capital letters and preceded by a #
--Robkelk (talk) 12:59, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
Thank you! --Kerya (talk) 24 March 2017

Does somebody feel like creating a page for a new figure?

Project Evolution Early Edition I added the free Demo version to the free figures page, but I don't know whether the free stuff that is showing up on sharecg and Renderosity works on that one. --Kerya (talk) 10 January 2018

Here you go: Project Evolution Early Edition. I added a big note about where to find the free version, and how it isn't suitable for renders. --Robkelk (talk) 20:04, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
THANK YOU! It is easier to track freestuff for a new figure when the page is here. --Kerya (talk) 14 January 2018

Login oddity

Does somebody else get a window with a text like this after logging in? " verlangt einen Benutzernamen und ein Passwort. WARNUNG: Das Passwort wird an eine andere Website als die derzeit geöffnete gesendet!" Translation: " requires a username and a password. WARNING: The password will be sent to another Website than the one currently opened!" Obviously I am NOT giving them my username and password, just clicking the window shut. But it is disconcerting. --Kerya (talk) 28 January 2018

I don't get a window like that, no. appears to be a wiki for a mod to the game GTA 5. That is not something that I would add to the wiki, and the two of us are the only ones with the rights to add anything like that to the wiki. You might want to run an anti-virus scan, or check whether your browser has any new extensions that you don't remember installing. --Robkelk (talk) 14:57, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the information - I am going to search. --Kerya (talk) 29 January 2018
Update - it looks like it is one of the wikis on Miraheze. When I log out here, I get a page with "Logging you out from other wikis of Miraheze". is one of them. Usually I don't log out, which is why I never saw that page. I just close my browser, which is set to clear cache and cookies when closing it. --Kerya (talk) 29 January 2018
Good to hear that this wasn't a security problem. --Robkelk (talk) 13:09, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

Well, I just got that window also when logging in. Maybe not a security thing, but then probably a miraheze thing...... Whatever it may be, it doesn't look like something that should happen.. --Glaseye (talk) 13:43, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

I'll look into it. --Robkelk (talk) 13:51, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
just for info, when I just logged out, I did get that LOGIN window again, not a notification like Kerya that said logging out from.... --Glaseye (talk) 13:59, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
I do get that login window too when logging out - and a Miraheze page that tells me about logging me out from other wikis, complete with some flowers in little squares. Question to Glaseye: are you European too? --Kerya (talk) 30 January 2018
Yep, dutch guy (IIRC that more or less makes me your neighbour to the west..... )--Glaseye (talk) 18:51, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
Now i did get those 'flower' icons as well, with some site references - like lspdfr - in between those icons. Then trying to login again, all got a little wonky. (probably due to what miraheze notes that the site may not recognize directly that one is logged out, and otherwise maybe the combo of settings I use in FF with ScriptSafe...--Glaseye (talk) 19:09, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
The lspdfr login is gone. --Kerya (talk) 06 February 2018

Any way to transclude page text?

I really miss this and hope the shortcut is just different. Agentunawares (talk) 20:40, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

That depends on what you want to transclude. I've been using templates to transclude license information from the big sites (DAZ3D, Rero, ShareCG, etc), but we have to write a template for each block of text. --Robkelk (talk) 23:30, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Need help placing these two

I think both of these are Cosplay, but I can't place them. And no, this is not an April joke. ;o)

--Kerya (talk) 01 April 2018 is the Google Android android - he's now on the Robots page. I don't recognize the other one. --Robkelk (talk) 14:32, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
I'm not impressed by Internetmoi's naming convention. Out of 65 downloads (I'm not including the Art or Video links in his gallery), 16 are named "props", seven are named "HAPPY HOLIDAYS", two are named "pz3", and two are named "Myster". With that naming convention, all 27 of these are mysteries. Here's an index page that I just put together of Internetmoi's downloads. --Robkelk (talk) 15:21, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
Not impressed by his naming convention either - but some of his/her creations are singular. I am trying to add the "props" English names in the descriptions. Internetmoi is obviously French, which might be a reason for his/her reluctance to add more text in English. --Kerya (talk) 02 April 2018
Thanks, Kerya. As for the names, Chacornac gives his freebies French names... But I shouldn't be so negative. Internetmoi is making some good free resources available. --Robkelk (talk) 14:17, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

Wardrobe or Weaponry?

Bomb Vest

--Kerya (talk) 10 April 2018

Both. --Robkelk (talk) 13:02, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Do we want a forum?

Thanks to the two wikis sharing the same host ISP, any feature on All The Tropes can also be installed here.

Do we want the "Discussion board" feature? Here's what it looks like on All The Tropes.

Reasons to have it:

  • It would give us a place to have discussions that isn't my User Talk page.
  • It looks like a forum.
  • It would be a centralized place for people to read posts about freebies.

Reasons to not have it:

  • It would be yet another place for people to go read posts. Would people want to come here instead of continuing to use the DAZ3D freebie forum, the Fantasies Attic freebie forum, the HiveWire3D freebie forum, the Renderosity freebie forum, and so on?
  • It would mean more work for the mods.

--Robkelk (talk) 17:18, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

I am not up to another forum, not enough time. We can use this Main Page Talk page for discussions, I think. Just my opinion. --Kerya (talk) 14 May 2018
I asked because I want the feedback; no worries. My big concern is whether anybody is up to another forum..
Speaking of features - folks might notice some "Farmer Log" entries on the Recent Changes page. There's now a big list of features that I can turn on and off... but I don't know how long it takes for the changes to become effective. I've just turned on WikiLove; we'll see how long it is before we get hearts at the top of our User pages that we can click on to thank other editors. --Robkelk (talk) 14:11, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
I'm pondering whether to activate HTML Meta and Title, RandomSelection, RSS, or some combination of the three. (I know that at least one person uses the wiki as a "new freebies" notification service, so RSS might be useful. HTML Meta and Title is for my own convenience. RandomSelection is just for fun - we could feature a "random freebie of the minute"!) Does anyone have any opinions on these? --Robkelk (talk) 14:17, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
RSS sounds really useful. I am using the "recent changes" or, if I don't have that much time, my watchlist to see what's new. RandomSelection sounds like a fun feature. No opinion on HTML Meta and Title. As you know, I am mostly just adding the simplest "Title and Link" to the pages. Sorry for that. --Kerya (talk) 15 May 2018
I'm not going to activate HTML Meta and Title. We're already high up in search results as it is; we don't need the boost, and it would be a lot of work to keep the metadata up to date. --Robkelk (talk) 13:56, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

New Toy: "RandomSelection"

I've activated RandomSelection. We can now have a random choice from an existing list appear on a page.

It's very easy to use - just make a list of the options! For example, your random freebie for H.I.M. is Predator PosePack.

--Robkelk (talk) 16:32, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

At least on my computer, it seems to like choosing the entries in the middle of the list. --Robkelk (talk) 16:39, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

The "Parser function" list style described on the documentation page doesn't work here. Use the "Tags" style only. --Robkelk (talk) 16:56, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

And I've come up with an actual use for this toy. Now, when you look at Victoria 4/Wardrobe, you'll see a random V4 dress image with a link to the page that describes the dress. (We have 31 pages with images for dresses for V4, so it seemed a good place to start.) --Robkelk (talk) 00:04, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Interesting Problem: two items with the same name

There is an existing page for a character for V4 by Youniss Karin V4. Now Syltermermaid has created a new character for V4 - guess what's her name? ... Karin V4 What do I do now? --Kerya (talk) 23 June 2018

Add the creator's name in brackets to the end of the freebie name. For example: Simple hair (Garduna) is a different page from Simple Hair (Mark003). The existing page might as well keep it's current name, though - somebody might be linking to it. --Robkelk (talk) 15:23, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! Done.--Kerya (talk) 24 June 2018

Image Creation Party!

I'm giving a $25 gift certificate to somebody on August 1. If you want your name to be on the list that I'll pick one name from at random, join in on the image creation party!

See here for details.

Please spread the word! --Robkelk (talk) 18:41, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

Welcome to the wiki, Thelufias and Faeryl Womyn! --Robkelk (talk) 01:53, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

Do we want to list this? (POLICY DECISION MADE)

While making pages for G8M freebies, I noticed "LIE Preset for Phx Gregory for Genesis 8 Male". (The link is currently on Genesis 8 Male/Materials and Shaders.) It's a free resource for a paid resource... but it's for a specific paid resource made by the maker of the free resource and cannot be used on any other resources.

I can't help but think this is a way for the maker of the paid resource to get a listing on free-resource sites. If not, why not simply update the paid resource?

This isn't the only time I've seen this sort of thing. Usually, it's a texture pack or refit for a paid wardrobe item, both released by the same person. A few of our pages of non-free resources list only free add-ons made by the creator who made the paid base items. This example is particularly egregious: five add-ons by the original resource creator, none by anyone else.

Is our goodwill being taken advantage of? Should we list these?

--Robkelk (talk) 16:30, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

I don't think this is done to get listed on free-resource sites - I think it is trying to entice people who are looking at Renderosity Freestuff to buy those clothes/characters. Some kind of advertising for themselves on the site where they are selling the stuff too. Karanta did that looooong before this wiki was started.
If you don't want them listed, we can remove those (it is kind of boring to do the copy paste for them anyway *grin*). --Kerya (talk) 14 July 2018
Additional "do we want to list this?" question: the three newest "PROPS" by Internetmoi have an additional remark "Ask me for the code here, I send it to you by email in your ShareCG account" - I don't want really to list these, because jumping through hoops to get the freebie? Not my thing. Kerya (talk) 07:42, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
That is annoying, but we do list the Most Digital Creations newsletter-only freebies. On the other hand, we already have over a dozen downloads named "PROPS" by Internetmoi listed in the wiki. --Robkelk (talk) 13:11, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
Not an easy thing to decide what's best. As to the example of the Gina dress, the fit morphs are listed in the 'Free Stuff' tab on the product page at rendo. To me, that just makes them an extension to the product, not a freebie as such. Most likely if you buy that product, you'll get an additional email from rendo pointing you to those freebies, making it even more an extension rather than a true freebie... --Glaseye (talk) 16:10, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
I think you have a pretty good system here to identify the conditional freebies at least for the ones like fits and such. For the ones like Internetmoi has made, we can warn people that you have to contact the artist to get access to the freebies. Let the people that use the wiki decide if they want to go to the additional hassle. Technically most of our freebies need a paid item to use them in the manner that they were designed for. That said, I do agree that going through the extra actions to get something is a peta. As a historian though we should not be too judgmental about peoples motives. If the product itself does not require a money transaction then I say it belongs on this site. We just warn people there are other actions to get and use an item like we already have been doing.--Dollygirl (talk) 16:58, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
Dollygirl, you are again the voice of common sense. Yes, let's continue to list these. --Robkelk (talk) 19:56, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

We can now make copies of pages!

I've just activated the Duplicate extension, so we can now copy existing pages!

How to use it:

  1. Go to the page that you want to copy.
  2. Click on the "Duplicate this page" link, under "Tools" on the page's left-side menu.
    • The "Duplicate a page" page will load.
  3. On the "Duplicate a page", put the new page name in the "Destination" box, leave the checkboxes empty, and click on "Duplicate".
    • The "Duplicate a page" page will reload to tell you whether the copy succeeded.
  4. Assuming it worked, click on the link to the new page, and edit it normally.

I just duplicated Douglas DC-2 to make Piper Cub, so I know it works. I only needed to change a few things - that's much faster than making a page from scratch.

--Robkelk (talk) 17:55, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Copy, paste, modify, my preferred method sofar..... so this duplicate function will come in very handy.... --Glaseye (talk) 20:56, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
Sounds great for all those "Pose standing, sitting, whatever number xxx" pages! Thank you! Kerya (talk) 04:38, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
Works great! I just used it to create Pin Ups 108. Thank you! Kerya (talk) 07:53, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

New wiki tools and toys

I've turned on some more wiki extensions:

  • Duplicator - Lets people make a copy of a current page, as described above.
  • TwoColConflict - If two people edit the same page at the same time, this makes it easy to see what the second person to click on "save" needs to update again.
  • Sandbox Link - Everybody gets a separate place to play with wiki formatting! Switch yours on (or off) under "Gadgets" on your Preferences page.
  • CSS and Subpage Fun - to help resolve a couple of minor nagging issues that I suspect nobody else has noticed.

--Robkelk (talk) 18:25, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Now I have 2 sandbox links in my personal toolbar (IIRC, there was already a sandbox there before this change). Haven't changed any settings yet, so not sure if this works as it should... --Glaseye (talk) 21:02, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
Likewise - it must be something we already had hiccuping with the new extension. Going into Preferences and turning one off under Gadgets brings that down to one link. --Robkelk (talk) 14:31, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Does "Public Domain" mean somethng different in Germany than it does in Canada?

The readme file in Poses for Terai Yuki TY2 says that the files are Public Domain. However, it goes on to list usage and distribution restrictions. In Canada, "Public Domain" means you give up all copyrights to the files, so either there shouldn't be any usage and distribution restrictions, or this isn't what my country's laws call Public Domain. Can somebody confirm the meaning of "Public Domain" in Germany, please? --Robkelk (talk) 18:17, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

German law is a bit different, we do have the "Urheberrecht" (author's rights), which can modify the Anglo-Saxon "Public Domain". So in Atomic-Knights case it is "no redistribution" and "Limited Use With Credits". Kerya (talk) 04:42, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, Kerya. I've updated the description page. --Robkelk (talk) 13:54, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

Single Pose sets(?)

As I've been 'absent' for quite a while, I just noticed the enormous amount of work someone(s) has put into making all those separate pages for 'single pose files'. I think most of us will understand why the creator's of those poses have opted for offering them this way, but wouldn't it be simpler (for future additions) to make just one page for each new 'set'? For example, there are 19 pages for the 'essential pose 1 to 19' 'set'. That's alot to go through (and admittely, it kinda bugs me, doesn't make me want to go look through any of them...) and having them on one page would make the wiki less cluttered. What are your ideas/opinions about his...? --Glaseye (talk) 15:11, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

As I am the one who mostly adds them - for me it is easier to create a new page when a new one shows up. Having a "Essential pose 1 to 19" set page, I would have to rename the page for the set each time (you never know how many there are going to be), add the link on that page and go through the "fun" of changing the name in the listing on the poses page. And probably missing something in the process. With the new duplicate page gimmick it is even less work than before with copy/paste. Kerya (talk) 07:06, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
Your call.... (not likely I'll be adding pose-sets anyway, by the time I've 'found' them, they most likely will be added to the wiki already.... I'll concentrate more on the aircraft section) --Glaseye (talk) 11:51, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

SketchFab and other generic 3d model repository sites

How we go about sites like Sketchfab that have a few models in format like OBJ or 3DS? And for that matter, Trekmeshes also has a few Poser and OBJ versions of Star Trek vessels. --AntonioCC (talk) 15:51, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

Just take a look at Star Trek Resources/Spaceships many of the ship models are in .obj. Poser and DS both can import .obj files. Poser also .3ds. Basically, if a freebie-model can be loaded/imported into Poser or DAZ, it's good to go (as long as it complies with the rules/ToS here, of course) --Glaseye (talk) 16:06, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

Page review(?)

Just got a notice saying the F2H Banshee page has been reviewed. I don't recall having seen that before. Something wrong or special??? --Glaseye (talk) 17:50, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

For some reason, the page showed up as needing review even though anything you create shouldn't appear on that list. I reviewed it and marked it okay just to get it out of the queue. Nothing to worry about. --Robkelk (talk) 21:40, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
I just had the same for Pin Ups 108 - that was the first page I created with the duplicate thingie. Question to Glaseye: did you create the F2H Banshee with the duplicate extension? I am just trying to find a reason for pages showing up as needing review. Kerya (talk) 04:02, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
I'll need more data before I can file a bug report. For the next few days, please keep track of when you get these messages, and for which pages. --Robkelk (talk) 11:51, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
Willdo (Im my case it was the 2nd page created with duplicate - and used the 1st page I created that way as the page to copy from) --Glaseye (talk) 12:46, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
Didn't have another "page has been reviewed", even with duplicated pages. Looks like it was a small glitch. Kerya (talk) 09:12, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Discussion pages

I did 'start' a discussion on some pages to get some feedback. however, I've got no idea if it did get noticed. So her a 'list' of pages that may need 'discussion' (It's probably best to keep the discussion about specific pages to those pages rather then creating new 'threads' here. Add your own pages here as well if and when desired. Or if not desired at all just say so.) --Glaseye (talk) 15:30, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Good idea to give a heads up here - I don't look at ALL new pages, to tell the truth. I answered for the Talk:Messerschmitt_Me_262, the Talk:Mikoyan-Gurevich_MiG-19 would be up to Robkelk Kerya (talk) 08:37, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

PoserDirect / Sparkyworld closing down

Just a heads-up: (and probably already known)

PoserDirect is closing down

Another sad loss - for the community as well. --Glaseye (talk) 14:51, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the heads up! Kerya (talk) 08:02, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
This is so sad... Here's hoping Mr. Sparky can find a place for his freebies. --Robkelk (talk) 13:20, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Need help identifying a piece of wardrobe

What is that???? Kerya (talk) 12:25, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

I have no idea... --Robkelk (talk) 15:11, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
My guess, judging by the description, it's just an experiment from the creator. Not resembling any specific genre of wardrobe, fantasy or real-life based... --Glaseye (talk) 15:27, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
It is a skirt with a back brace. It has some geometry issues. As Glaseye indicates someone's playing.--Dollygirl (talk) 16:38, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! I think I will skip this one - whatever it is.Kerya (talk) 04:26, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

This is interesting... Here's a list of what people are looking for and where people are coming from.

As of August 25, what appears to be popular are anime, supers, and Star Wars. Our anime and Star Wars lists are in pretty good shape. We need to clean up our supers lists...

--Robkelk (talk) 20:49, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Can't really see the popularity (maybe made a wrong choice or a blocked script....) The most referrals seems to be from DAZ, not really surprising; but the 2nd from some pirates forum? Ouch.... --Glaseye (talk) 10:36, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
Oh dear and they just got out of prison. =(--Dollygirl (talk) 18:11, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

I am mucking around again

As you all have seen I have been working on the Animals and Fantasy Monsters pages. I just wanted to tell you what I am trying to do. So a month or so ago, Rob went into the Animal page after I had created the lists by animal family. His brilliant idea and I mean no jest was to insert multipage listing statements, or for short, dpl statements. These statements use the categories that are assigned to a page. So if you put the categories Horse and Animal on a page it will show up on the Animals page under the Horse and Donkey heading. This was the best thing since slice bread. I create a page, assign the categories and phiff! it shows up in the right list. Now I can organize the page like I want and add pretty pictures. So if you look at the Animals page, the first main section is all done automatically. Once I got that page some what organized I started working on the Fantasy Monsters page. Rob again showed me that building pages around dpl statements makes life so much easier. He added Dragons to the Animals page. So now when I added a new Dragon page the list over on the Animals page and the list on the Fantasy Monsters page were updated. Well I must admit, my head blew up, and I started to expand this idea. I have been playing around with Dodger's site page cause he has so many monsters and then that led me to Themed Pages which led to Dungeons and Dragons and Cosplay and SF Resources and Warhammer 40000. I guess what I am saying is that I can see how we can make the wiki be easier to maintain if we use pages like Animals or Fantasy Monsters. What I found is that to make a list or set of lists like say the Dragons list I needed to add not only the Dragon category but also the Animal, the Dungeons and Dragons, the Cosplay, the Fantasy Monsters, the creator and so on and so on. Now after playing around is this the way you want to proceed? We can loose control if we don't have some guidelines about how a master page like Animals or Fantasy Monsters is set up and what the expectations for category selection on a content page should contain. This design I am touting will take some work. I see this design as letting people come at the information in multiple directions. People remember different things about something they want to remember, like the maker, who the content was for, or what the content is. The information that we have on the Figures page but our lists are only partial and not complete. Is this the way? In my before life I wrote operational procedures for a nuclear power plant. I don't mind writing up some guidelines if you want to go this way. If we ever get all the content onto their pages this design will make the work easier for one person to keep up with, Kerya adds on average 4 items a day. The problem comes, when you have someone like me come in and "muck up the system". What are your thoughts? --Dollygirl (talk) 05:40, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

So I forgot to tell you. dpl statements do not like the character &. Nope. No way. Nothing I tried would make the statement work. Because of that I moved everything that used D&D to Dungeons and Dragons so my statement on Dodger's content page would spit out the right list for that category of figures. --Dollygirl (talk) 05:49, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
If we really want control (for example, if we want "curated" lists that divide the freebies into finer groups than we can get from categories), then we have to do things by hand. If we're comfortable with letting the computer do the work for us, then we can use the DPL lists. I added DPL lists to the Animals page, so it should be obvious that I have no issues in giving up some control... although I haven't added DPL lists to the various anime pages where I have created "curated" lists.
Both options have their places; there's no "one size fits all" solution. --Robkelk (talk) 11:45, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
I can see a use for it for more themed pages, like the aircraft section (that's more or less 'my' workground). Though that section may not be large enough to have a real benefit from it (esp. with my rate of adding pages LoL). Needs a liitle more study from me. I guess it's time to do some 'sandbox' work.... --Glaseye (talk) 13:02, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
Okay then I will continue. Glaseye you would be surprised to find stuff in the strangest corners of this Wiki. I found Fantasy Monsters stuck in all sorts of places. They were logical places but not where I would have looked in the first place. You might be surprised at how many Airplanes there are and as long as there is one of a type I think it is a go. Just my opinion.--Dollygirl (talk) 15:25, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

I Redid a page, what do you think?

I redid a V4 clothing page Victoria 4/Wardrobe/One-piece clothing making it all dynamic and adding the 'page needs image' list at the end of the page. What do you think? Do you like the format could I do something different?--Dollygirl (talk) 20:56, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Well, I do like the layout in general. Having those lists split in alphabetical 'blocks' rather then individual letters gives a less clutterd /more compact layout. The thumbnail on the left side however does interfere with the layout; IMO it is better to put the thumbnail on the right. The 'Pages with no image' list is useful for persons - like you and me - who create images for the wiki. However, for those just using the wiki, it is a form of 'clutter' and - potentially - longer loading times.
Just a tip. I edit the wiki on my desktop, using a 1920x1200 screen; after editing a page I do look at the preview with a 150% zoom, emulating a 1280x800 screen (I started doing this after I looked at the wiki on my small screen notebook, quite a revelation to see how the layout can distort on a smaller screen LoL....) --Glaseye (talk) 14:29, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you Glaseye for the critique. Do you think we could suffer with the no image lists for a short duration? As in the case of the Animals page I am going to have all of those pages loaded with images and the list will go away in the next three or four days. I don't know if you have tried to generate images using the overall site no images pages but I get a bit lost. I like to focus on one task and then get it done. The big list can have you bouncing around to all different places. Makes me lose interest when I can't find a page that describes something in my runtime. I will take the image section out of the V4 one-piece page since I am not going to address those pages but I will add the code to pages that I am working on to help me get it done. Okay on the suggested change to the position of the images as well. Move to the right. Thank you again on your comments. --Dollygirl (talk) 15:43, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Of course we can 'suffer' them ;-) ... glad to have been of some help ... --Glaseye (talk) 15:53, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
