Dark elves are not copyrighted or trademarked. They are from folklore. The origin of the name, "trou", is a Scots Gaelic word for "troll" and is etymologically related, though the name "drow", with that specific spelling, might be claimed by WotC. The Oxford English Dictionary gives no entry for "drow", but two of the citations under "trow" name it as an alternative form of the word. Regardless, there should be no admonition to only use such skin textures only on non-commercial works. Svartálfar are totally in the public domain.

Svartálfar are actually more akin to dwarves than elves. The term you arr looking is dökkálfar (dark elves), and even then is not clear what exactly they are. The conception of "dark elves" as a "dark skinned elf" is modern, and born from D&D. AntonioCC (talk) 21:37, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
