AprilYSH's has updated her store - New Freebies
- AprilYSH has made some changes to her store and there are some old pay-for items that are now free. I have not checked all of our links for her to make sure things are still where we have identified them.--Dollygirl (talk) 00:54, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

- The helmet and teh shield looks like the ones from the Athena statue that was in teh Parthenon (known only for copies as the original was lost). The sword, teh plate and the throne... no idea, but given taht share a similar style, they probably are from some version of Athena in a videogame (it's not the God of War series, I checked).AntonioCC (talk) 11:53, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Update the link to Poser
Howdy.
Just wondering if there's a way to update the link to Poser on the main page? It still links to the Smith Micro site, which (for now) does redirect to "http://www.posersoftware.com". However, that could change at any time (right now, Smith Micro is just doing this as a courtesy). Would it be better to just link directly to http://www.posersoftware.com? Note: I don't recommend using https as the prefix, as they don't have an SSL for that site and it will generate warnings (they don't need an SSL for that site), so the http will work just fine).
Thanks!
- Thank you for the heads up - I changed it to https://www.posersoftware.com/ - because that works fine. We changed it on the Poser page, but forgot about the main page. Kerya (talk) 07:12, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Render Challenge for 2020
It's getting close to the usual Render Challenge time of year. Would "Get out and play" be a good theme, or would that be in poor taste considering many if not most of us have been self-isolating for months? --Robkelk (talk) 16:37, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
Lucky me - just picked up a $25 Daz gift card in a flash sale. So that's one GC for the render party.
Very busy with work right now. Could I trouble folks to post the announcement this year at the usual places, please?
- The Poser and Daz Free Resources Wiki is having our annual Render Party throughout the month of July!
- This year, the theme is "Get out and play virtually" - show off the free scenes, the free sports and games props, the free camping gear, the free sports cars, the free summer outfits, and anything else that gets the characters in your runtime out of the house and into the sun! You don't need to follow the theme, but you do need to feature free items in your renders.
- As always, we'll be putting the names of everybody who takes part into a random draw, and give gift cards or gift certificates to a few lucky people. We'll draw at least two names, maybe more - the lucky participants will get to choose which online 3D-resource store they get a GC for.
- The Render Party starts on July 1, and ends on July 31. Have fun playing!

- Could we get a page like last year with the FAQ and so on?

Here's a gallery. The image titles need some work, though... :) --Robkelk (talk) 13:04, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
The image titles need some work, though
So I did some research and found that {{Special:NewFiles}} Can list all of the images starting with the most current to the first image added. There is an example of using the call here. This function can be transcluded but the wiki's documentation is not very informative. It only gives the limiting number option. Since you can go to the Gallery of New Files and put in a date I am thinking that there is the option to list files from a startdate to now. I tried to get an answer but not from this wiki. They told me to talk to Miraheze but I don't know where the forums are. Can you help me figure this out. Please?--Dollygirl (talk) 16:27, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

- Oh my! Sweeeeeeeeeet Sir! So where did you find the format for the transclusion? This inquiring mind really really wants to know. Thank you. So Rob Glaseye just made your life a bit easier. Think you are going to use it???--Dollygirl (talk) 21:23, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- LoL, trial and error. I loaded the 'newfiles' page, filled the date and took a look at the page url parameters. copied the date part from it. (The nr 100 is obviously the max nr of files shown and could be omitted...) --Glaseye (talk) 21:29, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Teknology ... again
They moved to http://teknology3d.site/store/ ... at the moment, the old links are still working, so I am not going through the links here (for the moment). Kerya (talk) 05:38, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- Again? I'm tempted to just link to their items in the Wayback Machine... and stop driving traffic to their online store. --Robkelk (talk) 12:29, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
- And now those old links aren't working anymore ... I am not going through 117 links to correct them, just to have them moving again. Sorry!

- Kerya (talk) 06:32, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- I just noticed that their links are "http:", not "https:" - this means that people's information is not encrypted when it's sent between their computers and the website. And that's not a good thing. I'll see what's available in the Wayback Machine. --Robkelk (talk) 14:45, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- First check - "Sherry Outfit V4". The only link in the Wayback Machine is to a page that lets one add the freebie to one's cart... and there are no shopping carts in the Wayback Machine. The plan that we can simply switch to static links at archive.org might not work very well... --Robkelk (talk) 14:52, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- Going straight to consulting the list of pages that the Wayback Machine saved from www.teknology3d.com shows that none of them are old enough to have direct download links. If Teknology3D wants working links here to drive traffic to their online store, they're going to have to come in and fix the links themselves -- I don't do "http:" on merchant sites. --Robkelk (talk) 15:13, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

Wiki templates can now be edited only by administrators
We just had a recent bit of obscene vandalism. (I chose my words extremely carefully there - it was against not only our Terms of Service, but our host's Terms of Service as well. It it hadn't been for the fact that other wikis hosted by the same host were being vandalized in the same way at the same time, we could have had the wiki deleted. Out host was good enough to clean up the vandalism for us.) This particular vandalism used a new-to-me method of hitting multiple pages at once - edit templates that are used on multiple pages.
As a result of this, I have been forced to protect the templates. Not just the templates that were used in this attack - all templates on the wiki.
If a template needs to be updated, you will need to ask an administrator to make the changes.
--Robkelk (talk) 20:28, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- Can we still add ones we need?--Dollygirl (talk) 21:24, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- We can still add templates, yes. I recommend letting me know about new templates so that we can protect them.
- Yes, the cleanup filled nine-tenths of a 100-item recent change log, and is displayed on less than a dozen lines. The change log is still there; you can see it if you set the number of changes to 250 or 500.
- Also, assuming I've done the setting changes correctly, new users can no longer move (rename) pages or overwrite existing images. Confirmed users should still be able to do both of these actions. --Robkelk (talk) 00:27, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
Cosplay, but what/where?
- C_hg2013
- It's a, maybe recognizable, Cyber Helmet which fits Michael 4 at default. There are also fit morphs for Apollo Maximus, Michael 3, and V4. There are also some adjustment morphs and some "expression" morphs. You'll have to toggle the target figure's head visibility to off otherwise there will be some poke through, mostly the nose. The Helmet might be useful beyond what its immediate appearance suggests.

Check my reasoning, please
I don't want to list these if it will get the wiki into legal trouble... but I don't see any legal trouble here. I want opinions, please.
The Internet Archive has a small collection of images of 3D World cover DVDs (including issue 153 - the one with the first version of Victoria 5 on it).
I believe that the Internet Archive, in this case, is the equivalent of a lending library, and that it is legal to download and make use of these cover discs. Does anybody disagree?
--Robkelk (talk) 02:06, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- I honestly have no idea about the legality of this, but I wouldn't assume it to be legal just like that... The uploader's username doesn't indicate any connection with the magazine, and the uploads appear to have been done in a short time frame. Suggesting to me that someone just dumped them there. Apart from that dl are a torrent or an iso link (which I presume you mean with your reference to images - 'disc-images'); not DS or Poser compatibel formats (and not ones I personally would trust blindly). Add to that that Daz3D probably just licensed the magazine to distribute V5 on CD for its buying readers.... The license fee most likely will have been based on nr of CD's made. Just my 2 cents. --Glaseye (talk) 02:43, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- Good points. The ISO format is a small issue - we'd have to tell peple how to get the resources out of the file, unlike resources in a .ZIP file. The license fee that 3D World no doubt paid to DAZ3D... is more problematic, and sums up why I want opinions on this in the first place. --Robkelk (talk) 14:11, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- Well, I am known for being cautious.... So, if the link will NOT be posted in the wiki (which is obviously what I recommend), I would also suggest removing the link from this talk-page. This is not a hidden page and everyone can read it, so technically it is a posted link..... --Glaseye (talk) 14:39, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- From what I can see is that the page is an official page for 3D World set up by Future Publishing which is the publisher of 3D World. Hence there is no unauthorized creation of the original page. The fact that Wayback was allowed to crawl the page would be by intent of Future Publishing. This is the same reasoning for all of the other wayback links we have listed. I think we can link to the page legally, at least without fault anyway. Future Publishing can request Wayback to block access at anytime if they so choose, which on occasion I have seen happen. Just my 2 cents --Dollygirl (talk) 17:42, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- The uploader is described simply as "archivist" (with no email link), which indicates to me that he or she works for the Internet Archive, not Future Publishing. And these aren't part of the Wayback Machine - they're part of the Cover CD Collection. Completely legal in the USA since the Internet Archive has the same copyright exemptions that brick-and-mortar libraries have... but tricky outside of the USA.
- Yeah, best to not list these. --Robkelk (talk) 15:25, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- One good thing about looking at these CD pages - I found out about WireCASE. Here's their freebie page, with many of the models being available in OBJ or 3DS formats. --Robkelk (talk) 20:57, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
Any reason for the category Qraffx to be assigned to this page Talk:Main Page
?--Dollygirl (talk) 19:56, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

- Okay I see why now. So just so I understand things. Why did you move the information out of the template file and put it on the landing page for Qraffx? By doing that we moved information that was protected to an unprotected page? Also I did change how to say that the site is no longer available. Using the dead link template puts the page on our broken link watchlist and I was under the impression that we are to determine if we can find another source for the freebies. I guess we could use the Unavailable template since all of Qraffx is gone. There are only a few pages that Wayback archived. --Dollygirl (talk) 17:55, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- I moved the information out of the template file because that linked to Qraffx' website - which is not available anymore. - You have nothing to be sorry about Kerya. This discussion is about nailing down a procedure for future changes and to keep us in sink with each other. I apologize if I made you feel like you did something wrong. On the contrary there was nothing wrong with what you did. I just did not want to make any more changes if there were reasons for keeping the information in the format you created.--Dollygirl (talk) 07:04, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Want to play around with categories
I need to play with creating and deleting categories. How do I delete a category I don't want to use. I have this idea of how to create Kerya's Hair/cr2, hr2 and duf conforming and prop hair with dpls so all she will have to do is add new links for new hairs to the page, as was done on the Animals page. The process I see is that if somebody makes a page for a hair Kerya does not have to chase down the info to add to her page. The dpl statement will automatically add it for her. Big picture point of view, I like the feature of being able to see just the artists that make hair or figures or toons or whatever. With Keyra's page being handy for that kind of thing and the current practice being very hard to keep up to date as pages get made, I think we need to make a better process on these big pages. Do I have the level of editing to do this and are you willing to let me muck around in the wiki. Your promt response is most appriceated. I am very interested in seeing if my idea will work.--Dollygirl (talk) 21:07, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Our wiki host, Miraheze, has seen fit to let only admins delete pages and files. I can see why - deleting pages wholesale is an easy way to vandalize a wiki - but it does make things difficult for everyone else. Put {{delete}} on any page you want to have deleted and it will be added to Category:pages for deletion, where either Kerya or I will (eventually)see it and delete the page. --Robkelk (talk) 12:03, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

I was trying to change my password and now Miraheze will not let me log in. I cleaned out the cookies, asked for a temp password but still no go. I will try in a couple of days to log in again. I too saw the notice that this wiki was closed and was up for adoption. DollyGirl. 12/27/20 23:39
- I changed mine in the morning (before the close down). Did you try the "Forgot my password"?--Kerya (talk) 07:05, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- This is what I had to do, the last time I couldn't log in:
- Log out (even if you think you're logged out, make sure)
- Clear all your cookies for miraheze.org
- Log in
- If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll ask the folks at Miraheze about the problem,
