Don't know whether to start listing software that needs other software to be usable with DS or Poser...

Elefont
create 3D text objects from TTF fonts - generates DXF files (use Bryce to convert to DS format, or PoseRay to convert to OBJ)

MDD broken link

The MDD importer is mentioned in this blog, including a dl-link, but got no clue if it is the real thing.... http://bouyke.hatenablog.com/entry/2015/06/16/203249 --Glaseye (talk) 13:54, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Just noticed it is also mentioned further down the list, for importing Miku Miku Dance dolls to D|S (no idea what those are ... )--Glaseye (talk) 13:58, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Formatting the page to clarify software specs/requirements[edit]

This page is a good resource for finding needed programs. I had a few ideas for how we could potentially reorganize it so that readers can more quickly find software that's relevant to them. (If anyone is confused on how it might look, or if there's general support, I can create some mockups in a sandbox.)

  • Plugins vs. standalone programs: Some software listed on the page are plugins that operate within DS or Poser, while others are programs that run independently. We could create section subheaders for plugins and independent programs so that users can identify the right option for them.
  • Operating system compatibility: Not all listed software states whether it's compatible with Windows and/or Mac. By standardizing the list so that each program lists compatible operating systems, users can search the page for their respective OS, which makes it easier for them to find software that they can use.
    • Plugins are less likely to require a specific operating system, since they run from within another program. If we separate plugins from standalone programs, plugins could use a "required software/for use with" label, and programs could use a "compatible operating system" label.

What do others think? Radiiant (talk) 16:50, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

'A pictures says more than a thousands words' - or in this case a mockup in your sandbox :) . You're always free to experiment on/in your sandbox page and it gives 'us' a better way to comment, if necessary, and/or to give our opinion. --Glaseye (talk) 18:28, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
That's fair! I just didn't want to create one if nobody thinks a change is needed. I put together two sample mockups in my sandbox. Radiiant (talk) 17:24, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
Sometimes 'we' may think change is not needed, until someone shows us differently..... and as my brain is not as sharp anymore as it used to be, showing what you mean helps alot in understanding.... --Glaseye (talk) 18:15, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
I agree with Glaseye on this. Would be nice to have a template for software like the freebie box. Would be a good thing for an editor to have to make sure that all of the information that Radiiant has listed is identified.--Dollygirl (talk) 15:01, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
I put together a sample mockup for the page itself in my sandbox, but I can also experiment with a "softwarebox" template – let me mess around a little bit and see what I can do. Radiiant (talk) 17:24, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
I am in favour of automating things so that we don't need to make the same changes in more than one place, and I know how to use DPL3 to populate a table from information in infoboxes, so I really like the idea of a software infobox. Please carry on with this! --Robkelk (talk) 12:06, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
I have a rough concept coded at User:Radiiant/sandbox/Infobox (it doesn't show up on the page itself, but it shows up if you put {{User:Radiiant/sandbox/Infobox}} on another page). Right now I'm trying to figure out A) if it's possible to get the autoheaders function working even with the empty parameters and B) why the License parameter isn't functioning when I test it. Any help would be appreciated, because I'm particularly confused on the latter. Radiiant (talk) 18:36, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
You can look at it in my sandbox now. [infobox-sample] --Glaseye (talk) 20:38, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
I also took the raw template code and used it when creating Blender (software), so there's an example of how it looks in action. (A few of the parameters were modified for use on the page itself, but now there's at least a clear rendition of how the general infobox should look.) Radiiant (talk) 20:33, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
