And We're Back![edit]

Well, back as of Mid-June - we've lost thee months of updates.

We're good to go now... --Robkelk (talk) 18:26, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

While we still don't have all the content back, I think we now know almost everything that we're missing. At least we know what to work on while we aren't adding new content to the wiki. --Robkelk (talk) 19:24, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
With the loading of the previously-lost pages from June and July 2015, I suspect we now have all the pages we're going to get from any offline source. Everything else that's missing, we'll have to re-create. --Robkelk (talk) 01:14, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

All pages exported - Wiki Backup[edit]

The last time (UTC) I exported the entire text to my home computer was: 20170113184700
The last time (UTC) I exported the images to my home computer was: 20171104214400

This is less important to do, now that the wiki hosting service is taking regular backups of the wiki:

Question: how do I create a backup, at least for a page with subpages that I heavily edited just now (See V1-2 wardrobe)? --Kerya (talk) 06.06.2016
Here's the step-by-step:
  1. Make a list of the names of the pages and subpages that you want to back up, with only one pagename on a line. (Special:AllPages is an alphabetical list of all pagenames; the names in italics are redirects to other pages.)
  2. Make sure you're logged in, and surf to Special:Export
  3. Ignore the box "Add pages from category". Copy that list you made in step 1, and paste it into the big box. The default settings for the three checkboxes are good if you want the current pages - if you want the edit history as well, uncheck "Include only the current revision, not the full history"
  4. Click on "Export", and save the file.
That will give you an XML file, which somebody who knows HTML can use to make a text file. It will not save the images - you'll have to save those one at a time. --Robkelk (talk) 13:43, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for the step by step! --Kerya (talk) 7 June 2016

Wiki import[edit]

1.26 upgrade is planned at the ~24th. If you have luck, I can import some pages before the 31th (Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, btw.) - otherwise it will happen in January. Hopefully that's fine for you. Southparkfan (talk) 17:48, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

That's fine, thanks. I'll take an export before the 24th, just in case. --Robkelk (talk) 00:33, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
Export has been taken. --Robkelk (talk) 16:47, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
Another export has been taken - less than ten minutes before the maintenance window. This talk page should be the only page on the wiki that is not backed up to the current revision. --Robkelk (talk) 15:55, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Bug filed: I hope it gets solved soon, otherwise you won't get the backup running. Southparkfan (talk) 17:11, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Robkelk, please look at Please make me aware of any errors. If you think that nothing went wrong in the import process here, then we can schedule a read-only period for the real Poserdaz and Freebies Wiki so I can import this XML dump. Southparkfan (talk) 12:57, 10 January 2016 (UTC)S

I did some spot-checks, and everything seems good to me. I'll take another export of the text anyway, just in case. As for scheduling a read-only period, our busiest periods for updating are 05:00-09:00 UTC and 23:00-01:00 UTC - the 23:00-01:00 period is primarily my update window, so we can use that if necessary. --Robkelk (talk) 17:03, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
The latter period is (for me) 00:00-02:00, and that's unacceptably late for me. This update needs to happen at a Friday or Saturday between 18:30 and 20:30 UTC +0. The wiki would only need 30 minutes read-only time (5 minutes backup, 20 minutes import, 5 minutes checking). Southparkfan (talk) 17:34, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I was unclear - the times I gave are the times when we make most of updates to the content. Putting the wiki into read-only mode on Friday between 18:30 and 20:30 UTC +0 should not be an issue. (Saturday between 18:30 and 20:30 UTC +0 might or might not be an issue.) --Robkelk (talk) 00:40, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
Can you schedule a final date (and notify me about it)? And put it in the sitenotice too, obviously. Southparkfan (talk) 14:27, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
I'll schedule Friday, 22 January between 18:30 and 20:30 UTC +0 for the import. --Robkelk (talk) 00:15, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
I've just taken an export of the entire wiki as it stands now, just in case. --Robkelk (talk) 14:00, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Not needed Previllages[edit]

You have added yourself to the groups "autopatrolled, confirmed and rollbacker", which are not required as you get them within the "administrator" previllages. --anonymous

My rights were like that when the wiki was set up. Oh, and welcome to the wiki - do you have any links to share? --Robkelk (talk) 17:03, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Site-loading issues via phone[edit]

First, I want to say that an external forum is not the proper way to report bugs, we have a wiki for that. Anyway, the errors are interesting: it seems that your BlackBerry lacks SNI support. SNI is a very useful thing that allows us to have multiple SSL certificates hosted on a server with one IP. Extra server IPs (at least $5/month per site and a lot of trouble with RIPE) or SAN (depending whether GlobalSign wants to give us SAN certs for free, this can costs literally hundreds of dollars each year, even if we wouldn't go with GlobalSign) are not an option for Miraheze. We have our * certificate set as the "default_server", which means that even clients without SNI support can use HTTPS for * wikis.

For example, the Wikimedia Foundation has a very, very rare SAN certificate (used on all wikis). If you visit the English Wikipedia, you'll notice that it just works.

If I have to believe the Wikipedia article, it looks like SNI support was introduced in BlackBerry OS 7.2. If possible, you should update your OS to make use of SNI.

HSTS is a mechanism we enable via server headers, which is used to protect our users (on all domains - including * and from certain attacks. Our HSTS policy has a max-age of 28 days (which means that HSTS will be in effect until 28 days), which is why even disabling HSTS for wouldn't really make sense yet. HSTS also prohibits the usage of invalid certs, which is why you can't 'click this error away'.

Please let me know if you are able to fix this issue. Southparkfan (talk) 14:01, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

First, if the issue was with this wiki, I would have reported it through meta. I'm not the person who should be reporting technical issues for allthetropes - GethN7 is, and my contact for him is through that external forum.
Second, Blackberry OS 7 never had a version 7.2 - development stopped at 7.1, and IIRC that was a beta. It looks to me that Wikipedia needs an update.
I fully support using HSTS. I remember what happened to Orain. I will live with not being able to access allthetropes on my cellphone. --Robkelk (talk) 14:35, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
I have discovered while testing various anti-virus software that the latest version of Avast! working with the latest version of Firefox also does not like HSTS. I have uninstalled Avast!, but others might be wondering why they cannot access the site. --Robkelk (talk) 15:23, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Multi-upload tool?[edit]

Is there any chance of getting the multi-upload tool back now that we're settled in on miraheze? I must admit I don't know much about how that sort of thing is done.--Fielran (talk) 02:20, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

I'm not sure - Miraheze is more security-conscious than Orain was (for good reason), so they don't allow all of the extensions that we used to be able to get. And I know they have a backlog of requests ... but I can ask. --Robkelk (talk) 15:14, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
I have asked. --Robkelk (talk) 15:36, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Official reply: "MultiUpload is currently disabled on all wikis, because it's breaking things and it is currently unmaintained." We're looking into alternates. --Robkelk (talk) 12:31, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
We have a replacement! Edit a page - the "Drop files here" box at the top of the edit window is a multi-file upload tool. --Robkelk (talk) 13:05, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

ironman links[edit]

Hey Rob on the wayback links I only get the can't display page due to robot text. So maybe you being in Canada can see it but me in the USA can not. Maybe we should have a talk with ironman and see what we can do about re-establishing a home for them or just retire the pages if we can't. Lonnie

That's odd - I checked the links from two different computers before I posted them. (Both in Canada, true.) And, yes, we should get in touch with ironman about them... --Robkelk (talk) 23:16, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
Page cannot be displayed due to robots.txt. - I am in Germany ... --Kerya (talk) 19 June 2016
And now I'm seeing the same message. <sigh> Sending a Rendo sitemail to ironman13... --Robkelk (talk) 20:54, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
I think that sometimes sharing the Archive link just makes it look deeper and find that Robots.txt ... I've encountered that before. Sharing a link that works - and the person that tries it hits the robots.txt page. --Kerya (talk) 20 June 2016
Well that sucks. Something to look more into. If WB had the data stored for you and then all of a sudden it disappears then it is WB that is not working the way we think it should. --Dollygirl (talk) 20 June 2016

Got a reply - the sites are "gone for good". --Robkelk (talk) 12:25, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

Could folks check the Wayback Machine links, please? I'm getting the downloads again. --Robkelk (talk) 15:34, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
I tried with Coffee Time: but the download from does not work because of "Page cannot be displayed due to robots.txt" --Kerya (talk) 03 July 2016
I'm not surprised that the links don't work - those files were stored off-site and has IIRC never allowed archiving, so those particular freebies are gone for good. It's the freebies from (such as Contemplative Poses for Genesis 2 Female / V6) that are available again. --Robkelk (talk) 14:15, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
Tried the link from the Contemplative Poses: "Page cannot be displayed due to robots.txt. See robots.txt page. Learn more about robots.txt." --Kerya (talk) 04 July 2016

Secondary URLs[edit]

Sorry - but how do I get secondary URLs to show up? I added one to but it doesn't show ... --Kerya (talk) 19 September 2016

Call it Alternate URL, not Secondary URL. (It's far too late to change the template, alas.) --Robkelk (talk) 00:40, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Help please[edit]

Hey Rob do you happen to have copies of any of my freebies, like the Cinco de Mayo, the toy theater etc? Last month I had a head crash and lost everything that I was working on and some of my past projects. Think you could help me get some of it back? Thanks for any support you can give. Lonnie --Dollygirl (talk) 17:08, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

I keep copies of my downloads, but I don't have them sorted in any meaningful way. I'll have to let my computer crawl my archives to see what I have from you - which will take a few days. --Robkelk (talk) 22:35, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

Oh thank you!--Dollygirl (talk) 04:22, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Aargh. I have readmes for more than one of your freebies, but the only zip I can find in my archive is "DollyGirlTexs for DCM" --Robkelk (talk) 12:06, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for looking Rob. That project was on a different drive and I have that one. I really appreciate your help. There are other ways to see if I can get back those zips. I will try them next. --Dollygirl (talk) 12:06, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Another freebie site rescued from the Wayback Machine - with two items for unidentified figures[edit]

Freebies by Byron Taylor lists all of the freebies that I could find in the Wayback Machine from - over a dozen "golden oldies." (Including seam guides for V1 and a rather naughty item for SP3... who knew?)

If anybody knows who these two freebies are for, please update the page, and add those freebies to the figure's page or figures' pages. I've already added the glasses to the Glasses page.

--Robkelk (talk) 00:07, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

The heart glasses 'almost' perfectly fits V3, so my guess is they're made for it, but it does need slight adjustment. As it is a prop I would consider it to be usable on many models... so not specifically for V3 alone... Put it with V3 anyway??
--Glaseye (talk) 14:05, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
Sounds good to me - Byron Taylor did have some V3 freebies on the site, after all. Thanks for the help. --Robkelk (talk) 14:45, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

(BLOG) We finally have a page that's bigger than the list of hairdos[edit]

I knew Chohole made a lot of textures, but I didn't know she'd made that many...

Free Resources by Chohole has unseated Hair/cr2, hr2 and duf conforming and prop hair as the largest page on the wiki.

--Robkelk (talk) 16:11, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

(BLOG) Working on turning the index lists into indexes of pages[edit]

This is big enough for it own page. User talk:Robkelk/Working on turning the index lists into indexes of pages

Just finished indexing justlastknight's ShareCG pages[edit]

That was a big one - not as big as Chohole's pages, but bigger than average. However, the list only has the ShareCG links on it, with a very few exceptions.

Anyone feel up to adding the Renderosity links?

--Robkelk (talk) 00:00, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

(BLOG) ChibiBel turns 10 this year[edit]

ChibiBel turns 10 this year. As a present, I've just finished making individual pages for each of her freebies (except for the textures for ChibiBel and School Set) - although many of those pages still need images. Does anyone want to help with the pictures? --Robkelk (talk) 21:35, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

10 years already... (about the same as my 'involvement' in 3d :) ), but alas, anime is really not my thing. (But I'll try to do some more on/for the aircraft pages...... been absent waaay to long now)--Glaseye (talk) 18:49, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Looks like database is not updating category content[edit]

Hey Rob, it looks like when you click on one of the autogenterated pages that the database is not updating what is contained on the page. You added more pages to One-piece clothing category but when you click on the autogentered page your additions are not being included. I have the same problem with my addition in Fetishwear. I noticed yesterday they were having problems with the database are we still trying to recover from that issue? --Dollygirl (talk) 16:55, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Looks like it is a bit slow is all --Dollygirl (talk) 17:36, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
That's been happening on and off all across Miraheze lately. They're looking into it. The category-update program is separate from the database, though. --Robkelk (talk) 13:52, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Made a page for DryJack should have been a category[edit]

I made a page for DryJack not thinking that I needed a category instead can you please remove the DryJack page. I created the category so don't need the page anymore. Thanks--Dollygirl (talk) 19:04, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

Done! --Robkelk (talk) 23:24, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

(BLOG) Five thousand content pages![edit]

I just created the wiki's five-thousandth content page!

The "lucky" page is G2F knitted Suit - a two-piece wardrobe by Wilmap for Genesis 2 Female.

(Of course, there's still over a thousand wardrobe pages to go, then there's morphs, hair, poses, props... Some day we'll look back and wonder that we only had 5000 pages.)

--Robkelk (talk) 02:16, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

I just created the wiki's 7,500th content page! The lucky page is ... golly, how did this happen <grin> ... Aiko 4 Base. --Robkelk (talk) 00:42, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

PFDLives is closing[edit]

I'm adding this to the Talk pages of all active users, including myself. Since my Talk page has become the de facto chat page for the wiki, please reply here.

PFDLives has announced that they're most likely closing on August 1: - login required to view

Maybe, if they can get enough donations, they can remain open longer ... but the domain name is only registered until 2018.

This means all of the freebies on will either be moving or disappearing. (Some of those freebies are listed here, but not all of them.)

Please, spread the word about this ... and help ensure that any freebie not behind a login is saved in the Wayback Machine.

--Robkelk (talk) 12:56, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Looks like Attic's management has picked up the site and restored all the freebies. A very nice thing for them to do. Did not check the links my bad!

--Dollygirl (talk) 19:10, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Well, then, somebody has a project ahead of me him... --Robkelk (talk) 20:24, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Found Out How to display intersecting categories[edit]

Rob, hope your holiday is enjoyable. When you get back I would like to talk about the ability to use the extension DynamicPageListing. This little routine can search through the Wiki and find all of the pages that contain the union of a set of categories, example would be Hair and Aiko 3. If a page has those two categories assigned to it then initiating this extension would generate a page with all of the associated pages that contain categories Hair and Aiko 3. We could create box on the front page so a user can type in the categories they want a union for and there you go a dynamic list of pages that meet that requirement. What do you think? --Dollygirl (talk) 19:22, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Dollygirl, I've asked whether there would be any security concerns getting DynamicPageListing added to the wiki, and it looks like we can have version 3 of the extension. I'll ask for it once I'm back from vacation. --Robkelk (talk) 18:54, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Cool will be looking for it --Dollygirl (talk) 17:46, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

The documentation is available at --Robkelk (talk) 20:30, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

Just bought myself a present[edit]

Content Paradise was nice enough to send me a birthday coupon earlier this week, and I just used it to get NearMe at a reduced price. I wonder how well she'll work in Daz Studio? (I'll find out once I'm back home...) --Robkelk (talk) 18:54, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Looks like she works pretty well, considering her age. I installed EvilInnocence's wardrobe for her when I installed her, and some of the items look good on her. (Others violate the wiki's "no sexualization of minors" rule, though, so only COR Shirt gets an image of her.) --Robkelk (talk) 02:14, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Mirror Universe Sci-Fi Outfit (for V2)[edit]

Mirror Universe Sci-Fi Outfit (for V2)does not contain a URL for the product. --Dollygirl (talk) 04:40, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Link added ... --Kerya (talk) 30 July 2017
Thanks Kerya --Dollygirl (talk) 16:19, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, Kerya and Dollygirl. --Robkelk (talk) 20:18, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Just asked the wiki host for two features[edit]

I kept forgetting to do this... my apologies, everyone. I just asked our wiki host to add two features:

  • Extension:DynamicPageList3, which will let us search on multiple categories
  • Extension:MultiBoilerplate, which will let us make new-page templates

--Robkelk (talk) 19:47, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Oops - I asked for three features, not two. The third feature is ReferenceTooltips‎, which lets you move your pointer over a footnote link and see the footnote text. This feature is now live. (We don't have very many footnotes, but now you don't need to scroll down to the end of the pages to read them. Maddie's page has a footnote in the first sentence, in case you're curious about how this works.) --Robkelk (talk) 20:12, 17 October 2017 (UTC)

DynamicPageList3 and MultiBoilerplate have been installed. Dollygirl is testing out DynamicPageList3. I've created two new-page templates so far - if anybody has suggestions for more, please add them here. --Robkelk (talk) 17:15, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

I have tested the dynamicpagelist3 extension and it works. I will see if I can create a page where you can put what categories you want in and get the listing. There is an issue of the extension listing a non-existing page as the first element in the list. You can see the results on my sandbox page. My question is how do we get rid of that entry. My second question is how do we use the boilerplate pages? I do not have a clue how to initiate an editing session with the template. :) --Dollygirl (talk) 17:37, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, Dollygirl. I'll have to do some research to get answers to your question about DynamicPageList3. For the boilerplate pages, when you create a new page, you should see a dropdown menu just above the editing box. Click on either of the choices there (we only have two right now) and the boilerplate will completely replace whatever is in the editing box - continue editing from there. (I'll ask around and see whether there's any way to put a note on the page-creation page.) --Robkelk (talk) 23:30, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
That didn't take too long. There is now a note at the start of the new-page page. --Robkelk (talk) 23:47, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
And the missing template was supposed to be an example of what you can do with DynamicPageList3. I've copied (with permission) that template from the wiki All The Tropes. --Robkelk (talk) 00:26, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

I just discovered that dynamicpagelist3 returns a maximum of 500 results - see here (for now; I'll eventually be making that list shorter). --Robkelk (talk) 15:12, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

Does this go on the wiki?[edit]

Noadasi shows the process of taking 3D primitive shapes and turning them into a fully-poseable figure. (The figure is "Erma", from this web comic.) Modeling, texturing, and rigging for movement are all shown.

The thing is, this isn't a tutorial. It's more a walk-through without actual instructions. But it might be of interest.

Should we list it?

--Robkelk (talk) 00:52, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

It is a wonderful example of what you can do with 3D and in particular Blender but our mission statement says DAZ Studio and Poser freebies. It would be a bit confusing to people if they are expecting a freebie that is suppose to work in DAZ and it is only Blender instead. I have no problem changing the mission statement if you want to expand the scope. Up to you Boss! --Dollygirl (talk) 04:20, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

That's a very good point - it isn't DS or Poser. Let's not list it. --Robkelk (talk) 12:17, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Whoop Whoop There it is![edit]

Congratulations! Rob. V4 Morphs. Gotta say you are a very determined fellow. --Dollygirl (talk) 18:00, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, Dollygirl. It was a lot of work. But I still haven't finished V4's hair... and barely started her poses. --Robkelk (talk) 00:11, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

Getting in touch with Rob[edit]

...or maybe I reply here to you? I dropped a note on my talk page. The talk page thing is new to me. Anyway, see this forum post here, as I was lost for a while, and did not know how to contact anyone? - Matt

Hi Matt! I see that it's still not completely clear on how to get past the anti-spammer safeguards. I suspect the anti-spammer settings are too stringent - but we're in the middle of a heavy spam wave at the moment, so they need to stay they way they are right now.

Anybody with an account here can get in touch with me by clicking on the "send me an email" link on my User page, and filling in the form on that page. I get to see your email address if you do that, though. --Robkelk (talk) 16:42, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Deleting agentunawares page[edit]

Agentunawares created a page that needs to be deleted. The artist wanted to create a category and ended up making this page instead. Honest mistake. I can't count the number of times I have done the same thing. Thanks --Dollygirl (talk) 23:31, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

I can delete the page, or I can move it to become the first draft of Agentunawares' User page. @Agentunawares, which would you like me to do? --Robkelk (talk) 01:21, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Why not external links to images?[edit]

I could not find this anywhere, though I assumed it is due to the reasons here:$wgAllowExternalImages#Why_disallow_external_images?

Are those the reasons? If so, another option could be for users to more easily submit a freebie by just posting a freebie link and image link they approve for the Wiki to use? ...and since I try not to recommend without doing some legwork on how it could be done, maybe a simple forum (that is easy to sign up) and allows user to post freebie link, image link, their consent to use it and statement they are the creator/owner. (like this example:

Honestly, we do it that way because it's always been done that way... but that isn't a good excuse, let alone a reason. I'll have to check with the wiki hosting provider to see whether we can change it. --Robkelk (talk) 17:00, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Ever look into this? I was just thinking about it? --3doutlaw (talk) 00:49, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, things got hectic in Real Life and I haven't had a chance to follow up on it. --Robkelk (talk) 00:51, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Being able to display external images is discouraged, because in the past it's been used to display spam. I can't really argue with that... --Robkelk (talk) 16:51, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
I guess I can understand that, but since you have controls on who can create, seems like you can control the "bad guys". Post Spam and you are out!  :) Won't stop me from helping, but I rarely come here for freebies, 'cause I can't browse like I can everywhere else. --3doutlaw (talk) 14:01, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
An interesting comment about not browsing here at the site. My question would be what would you have to have to browse here. I have been thinking a picture gallery structure would be nice I know that some peiple would rather "see" the product. Maybe we could try and put together a picture page of a page say like the Animals or a wardrobe page or something that is mostly pages. The picture page would be set up that when you click on an image you go to that page. What do you think. --Dollygirl (talk) 16:18, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
I tried that years ago - it never caught on. Deco, Decoco, and Maybe is the example page. (It's also an example of spam in images - the thumbnail for Deco still shows text-spam for a company named DECO instead of showing the thumbnail for the Deco figure. I have tried repairing this many times.) But I'm willing to try again. --Robkelk (talk) 21:11, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
And right after I posted that, I figured out how to fix the thumbnail, so it isn't an example any more. --Robkelk (talk) 21:19, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Whoops! I was not saying to use creator images but to use our own, that way no problem with copyrights, spam or anything. Maybe different sizes but I figured out how to make them all the same size in a gallery format. Was thinking of putting a set of images across the top of a page like figures or animals that reflected some of the items listed on the page but could make it a complete gallery of that page. Would take some time to gen up all of the images. Do you want me to try and do the animals page? --Dollygirl (talk) 00:19, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
Sure, why not? If we decide we don't want to keep doing pages like this, then we can use your new images on the items' pages. --Robkelk (talk) 15:01, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
For browsing, I was thinking of a quickly scrollable table like this: ...but with 10000 items, I thinking of two options (1) link to external images, or (2) uploading a 2x size thumbnail from the freebie. Maybe the latter would be better, as long as the freebies terms did not disallow it? --3doutlaw (talk) 21:27, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
Ah, yes... We used to have tables on some index pages, but I was out-voted on keeping them. Maybe it's time for another straw poll? --Robkelk (talk) 21:32, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
My reason for discouraging the proposed table format is that you have to manually change information in the table verses having to make one change and that gets pushed out to all referencing pages. If we keep the concept of having a page for each item and then use the categories as the set of keys then if one day there is only one keeper that person does not have to make thousands of changes to update one item. I have been doing some researching on trying to use the dynamic category function to create something along this concept. I will keep you posted. --Dollygirl (talk) 18:48, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
(1) OK, not sure I understand the one change thing, but I am a noob  :) What about this part though? -> Uploading a 2x size thumbnail from the actual freebie, as long as the freebies terms did not disallow it? (example here: --3doutlaw (talk) 21:06, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
Oh, we can definitely do that! I've done it here: File:Becky Outfit.jpg. --Robkelk (talk) 01:44, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
(2) The dynamic stuff looks like a good option! I saw a dynamic add-on example here ( that was able to "suck in" page information into a similar tabular format. Cool stuff!  :) --3doutlaw (talk) 21:27, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
(3)Yup that is what I mean. I think it works on paragraph tags. Which we would put in the freebie box to identify what items go into the table. Then all an admin would have to do for up keep is work on the product pages and not have to worry about making sure other pages with tables, lists, galleries are correct and current. I see the product pages as being the foundation and that the wiki is a structure that sits on top of this data and provides the functions we have configured for it. If you set up the foundation to be a set of unique items (ie pages) that you pull the data from you have then controlled the amount of effort it will take to keep the site going. At 10,000 pages that is a lot of work. Your effectiveness and accuracy becomes impacted and then no one will use the site because it is no longer reliable. Just my two cents. This is Rob's show. What he wants goes. --Dollygirl (talk) 16:20, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

I am confused about the A2 Jacket[edit]

Is this the same jacket as this: I ask because the link listed on the page is dead. --Dollygirl (talk) 14:57, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

I think they're different jackets from different creators. But one never knows when they're on different sites... --Robkelk (talk) 15:08, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Well guy91600 has the link you have listed on the page here in his description. So I was wondering if guy91600 used the base as listed on your page to make the genesis 1 garment. If so, that is the only source we have of the object file. Because Versatile Peter no longer has a gallery at sharecg. --Dollygirl (talk) 15:52, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
In that case, let's update the existing page rather than creating a new one. --Robkelk (talk) 13:23, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
More confusion - guy91600 has deleted his A2 jacket, but Versatile Peter has uploaded his (probably improved) again ... fun. I am correcting the link and deleting guy91600 from the creators, but I don't know the shortcut for "Limited use with credits" for the sharecg license. --Kerya (talk) 23 February 2018
{{ShareCG-limited-use-license}} And thanks. --Robkelk (talk) 14:13, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! Corrected. --Kerya (talk) 24 February 2018

10,000 content pages![edit]

We're getting into the big leagues now, with out 10,000th content page. Thank you to Dollygirl for creating the page!

If you're curious... here it is.

--Robkelk (talk) 23:10, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

I have found an extension that will let us use selection boxes to set up the category search[edit]

I found this extension, Multi-Category Search: that looks like what I was talking about for our users to look for intersecting categories. What do you think? Could we use this? --Dollygirl (talk) 18:54, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

I'll have to ask, and the folks at Miraheze will have to make sure there aren't any security holes in the extension. This will take a while... --Robkelk (talk) 01:43, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
It has been under security review since April 2016. I'll ask whether this can be sped up, but don't hold your breath... --Robkelk (talk) 16:07, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
Great things come with waiting. Thank you for looking into it. I think it will be a nice feature if it gets approved. Gives people an additional way to find things. So do you know how many people come to visit the site? Have you had any feedback from users? Is there a wish list? Just curious. --Dollygirl (talk) 16:25, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

(Blog) It's taken three and a half years to get to this point[edit]

The wiki has finally reached the point where I don't have time to personally review every single change made to it.

This is a good thing - it means that there are enough people taking part in the editing that the wiki will continue on if I take a vacation or am otherwise unable to check in every day.

I'm also seeing the wiki's pages turning up at or near the top of some web searches, including in DuckDuckGo which doesn't customize search results the way that Google does. We're becoming a trusted source of information, as well as a healthy wiki.

The wiki is doing well. :)

--Robkelk (talk) 19:03, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

So are you thinking you need to expand the duties to others? Or is my messing around in the Animals page causing some issues and I have caused an emotional response? I don't mean to cause harm or distress. Just read the intro to the page and said well now that every product has a page let's see what the page should look like with just categories and stuff not quite done yet.
In the end, this is your baby. I love that you have dedicated your time and knowledge to lead us to where we are. I thank you for that time and knowledge and I congratulate you on the success.
If your thinking is more about my first question then I have this to say. My husband and I were talking about 3Doutlaw's suggestions for using the site, the table thing. During that discussion he suggested that the wiki might need a set of people that become the keepers of the vision of the wiki. They take the suggestions made and determine if it meets the goals and vision of the site. If the suggestion does, then they hand it off to the group that goes out and finds ways to implement the change. The group or groups would work in an area that would not impact the current structure of the wiki. They would test out their solution on the keepers and if it works then push it out for production. This is just thoughts. Not saying you have to do it this way or anything.

--Dollygirl (talk) 21:23, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Your "messing around in the Animals page" is not causing any problems at all.
As for the rest of your questions... let me think on things, please.
--Robkelk (talk) 01:41, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
Still thinking. Right now, the next step up from "rollbacker" (who has the ability to undo an edit) is "administrator". Do we want a role between the two? Is it technically possible to put a role between the two? --Robkelk (talk) 22:58, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Can't answer the question of between rollbacker and administrator. What is it that you see this person doing for the site? Right now we really don't have roles defined per say. You ramrod the site, Kerya adds the current new stuff and you and I are making pages. Other people add things that are their's or things they know are missing. Never have really used the rollback function at least not on purpose anyway. Accidently once or twice and then I decided I would never touch that link again. To scary.
It might be that all you really need to do is say okay these are my needed roles and their responsibilites and then ask us if we would volunteer and to pick the job we would like to do. Based upon what the role is, then you assign the appropriate authority for that role. It is tough to be a boss on this type of project. We are volunteers and have no vested interest in making sure the site is successful. Not saying that compensation is required, but knowing the people who are doing the work is hard to do through the internet and getting to a level of trust is difficult to do.--Dollygirl (talk) 04:53, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
You're completely right. We're all doing what we do well; why mess with a good thing by bureaucratizing it? --Robkelk (talk) 13:34, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Er... I just noticed that the "messing around in the Animals page" did create one small problem - all of the individual pages are showing up on the "Orphaned Pages" list. We can fix that with Dynamic Page List, though, so it's a problem with an easy solution. --Robkelk (talk) 15:14, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

Would somebody be kind enough to fill in some of the question marks in this new section, please?[edit]

File Formats is a list of file formats, and whether they can be used in Poser or Daz Studio. I don't have all the information needed, though. If anybody can replace a question mark with a yes, a no, or whatever, please do! --Robkelk (talk) 22:55, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

OK, I did some work on the Daz side, from what I could find using the interface imports/opn dialogs, the stuff I learned making Runtime Links for DS, and doing some google searches. Most thing work if you transition through OBJ of course...--3doutlaw (talk) 13:44, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
Thanks! That helps quite a bit. --Robkelk (talk) 16:44, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

(BLOG) Popular Figures[edit]

Just for fun, I looked at which figures have the most freebies here.

According to the most linked-to categories page, and as of this posting, these are the figures with the most pages here. The numbers also include index pages, so they aren't completely accurate, but they're close enough:

  1. Victoria 4: 2,841 pages
  2. Aiko 3: 1,018 pages
  3. Genesis 8 Female: 794 pages
  4. Victoria 3: 704 pages
  5. Genesis 3 Female: 671 pages
  6. Michael 4: 652 pages
  7. Genesis 2 Female: 541 pages
  8. Genesis: 479 pages
  9. Stephanie Petite 3: 338 pages
  10. Michael 3: 314 pages
  11. Laura: 252 pages
  12. Dawn: 237 pages
  13. Hiro 3: 235 pages
  14. Kids 4: 212 pages

I stopped at 200 pages. (David 3 has 198...) This only counts pages that we have already created and that have all the categories listed! (Which means V4, A3, and G2F would have even higher counts if we had all of their pages created.) I know that there are over 200 "bare links" on Cookie's pages, so she would also be on this list -- probably near Stephanie Petite 3 -- if her freebies had pages.

--Robkelk (talk) 13:23, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

As for prolific creators... nobody who has over 200 pages has a complete set of freebie pages here, but here's what we do have. Again, I stopped at 200:

  1. Adam Thwaites: 438
  2. Justlastknight: 335
  3. Mylochka: 268
  4. Kordouane: 207

Image Creation Party![edit]

I'm giving a $25 gift certificate to somebody on August 1. If you want your name to be on the list that I'll pick one name from at random, join in on the image creation party!

See here for details.

Please spread the word! --Robkelk (talk) 18:41, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

Will be offline for a while[edit]

I'm okay. My home is okay. My city is a mess: When the laptop battery runs out, I'm offline until power is restored. --Robkelk (talk) 02:33, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

{{{Hugs}}} Kerya (talk) 07:28, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, Kerya. Power's back, at least for now... I'm charging a spare cellphone battery. --Robkelk (talk) 14:06, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
Good to hear you're okay.... never experienced a tornado myself, luckily. (Though those 'westerstorms' and landspouts we occasionally have here in Holland are not that nice either..) --Glaseye (talk) 10:46, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
Glad everything is okay with you. I have only lived through a tornado watch, in Arkansas. Out here in Arizona we get dust devils and micro bursts, not the same thing. A tornado is a scary scary thing. --Dollygirl (talk) 13:51, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
I'm one of the lucky ones - my power was out for a half-day and I was able to fill my car's gas tank before the stations ran dry. I have a friend who lives one block away from the tornado's path - he still doesn't have power restored. --Robkelk (talk) 16:25, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Still alive...[edit]

I've just been busy, both at work and with my personal life. --Robkelk (talk) 14:15, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

I hope it's good busy ... Kerya (talk) 08:59, 2 March 2019 (UTC)

New welcome template[edit]

Have you seen the new welcome template yet? Welcome 2Cute4U (talk) 06:20, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
I have, yes. Thanks for making it! It'll need some work before we can use it on this wiki, though. --Robkelk (talk) 12:57, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
Help! My user page is being vandalized. 2Cute4U (talk) 06:38, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
Just like on All The Tropes this week... What is it with new user accounts beginning with "2" having their User pages vandalized almost immediately after being created on wikis that just don't get vandalism?
In order to protect this wiki, I'd best say this immediately. MOD: Only an administrator has the right to declare vandalism or to change how the wiki looks, and we have more administrators than we need at the moment.
--Robkelk (talk) 13:26, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
And now that we have confirmation from Miraheze that everything "2Cute4U" did was a cross-wiki vandalism attempt, I'll be undoing the damage that was done. --Robkelk (talk) 23:12, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

I'm still here...[edit]

... I've just been so very, very busy. Good to see I don't need to make any decisions on the wiki. --Robkelk (talk) 12:33, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

…. So glad to hear from you. I hope the busy is for good things. --Dollygirl (talk) 15:09, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

Two big projects at work and a change of cities (and better job) for a close relative. I think they're good things. --Robkelk (talk) 16:01, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

Thank you so much[edit]

Thank you for creating all those pages! I have a hard time describing clothes - sometimes I try, but I have to use a translator for things like "spaghetti straps" (those are easy, it's Spaghettiträger in German). Kerya (talk) 12:27, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Happy to help. There's still quite a large backlog... so I should get back to it. :) --Robkelk (talk) 22:47, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for the warm welcome![edit]

I have no idea if I'm doing this right, please forgive me if this isn't the proper way to message you. It's been difficult to figure things out here (I'm just really new to this so have no idea how to do anything here lol). Is there a quick video tutorial on the basics? If this isn't the right way, please let me know. :)

Thank you for the warm welcome and for adding me to the confirmed users. :)

~Divamakeup (not sure how to add my name properly with the time stamp and all that)

You're welcome! And please feel welcome here - this is exactly the right way to leave a note for me (unless you want to share something that you think is private).
I don't have any video tutorials, but I'll ask around. Maybe some of the other wikis have something that they'd let us use. The wiki will add your userID and a time stamp if you type in four tildes (the "~" character) in a row.
And thank you for all the images you've uploaded so far!

About mollytabby[edit]

I have now... --Robkelk (talk) 11:34, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

Rob, thanks for the welcome. I hope I am doing this right, if not I guess just delete the topic. I have been hanging around for a while, I used to be wwes on the daz forums, so I created the main wiki image! :) Now I am 3WC on most forums. I don't think I ever had an account for the wiki before, at least not that I remember. But I wanted to get in on the Image Creation Party; looks like fun!

Happy to have you aboard! And I've updated the Main Page... --Robkelk (talk) 16:39, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

Number of characters a freebie box image name can have[edit]

Not sure if this is the reason. I was using Kerya's TinTinN image, V2TentenNCangalsuitMokohair.png in the freebie box for TinTinN and it would not display. Showed the little x box. I put in my TinTinN image, Yamato-Tenten N.png and it worked. MollyTabby had a similar experience with one of her images. She shortened the name and it worked in the freebie box. My question is there a size limit on the number of characters that can be used in the name of an image?--Dollygirl (talk) 13:47, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

It looks like you've discovered one! Unfortunately, this isn't something that I can fix; it's coded into the wiki software. --Robkelk (talk) 13:58, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
Do you know or can you find out what the limit is. We can put the info on the various pages to tell everyone about the limitation.--Dollygirl (talk) 15:21, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
There's nothing in the documentation, sorry. We'll have to experiment. --Robkelk (talk) 15:27, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Blocking a user and deleting a page[edit]

I think "Justgerrardz" should be blocked - he created this page: Definitely not Poser or Daz Freebies ... Kerya (talk) 07:19, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

And that's a good enough reason to block somebody. Remind me sometime when we both have time to teach you how - you have the rights. --Robkelk (talk) 12:37, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks - I know I have the rights, but the howto ... Kerya (talk) 13:03, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
What about this page and user?? --Glaseye (talk) 12:41, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
(goes and looks) Yeah, that's not a useful page for this wiki. Page deleted, user blocked (but can still edit the User page) for three months. And the template that you used to mark the page now exists, as does Category:Site Maintenance as a category to list all the things we need for the wiki but aren't about freebies. --Robkelk (talk) 12:57, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

That looks like a page with no content to me. (Actually, it looks like a spammer noticeboard page of some sort, but that's a guess. "Page with no content" is provable.) I've deleted the page. --Robkelk (talk) 11:48, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Warning about new username[edit]

05:55 User creation log User account JamesBot talk contribs block was created ‎ Considering the Username policy requests I think he should be asked to change his username ("bot") ... What do you think? Kerya (talk) 04:46, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

That policy is still being discussed... but I've mentioned the account there as an example. If our wiki host decides to go ahead, they'll take the appropriate steps; if not, then there's nothing to worry about. --Robkelk (talk) 12:45, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Blocking a user[edit]

I just deleted a page with spam, created by Mirian729 ... Deletion log Kerya talk contribs block deleted page A really appealing web site along with wonderful posts! ‎(Spam: content was: "This is actually one of the most fascinating web sites I have ever before seen. That is extremely exciting considering that of i...", and the only contributor was "Mirian729" (talk)) Could you block them, please? Kerya (talk) 05:09, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

Done. And thanks for catching that. --Robkelk (talk) 13:34, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

Creator category configuration question[edit]

The creator category says only categories should be assigned to the category:Creator and not pages. Have you changed your mind on how you want to deal with wiki support personnel and add their wiki user page to this category? There are several of us in the group that Glaseye is part of but our information structure is the same as what I changed Glaseye to. I have no problem setting up these users the way Glaseye and DanniStories are currently. Just want to be consistent across the board. Which way do you want it?--Dollygirl (talk) 16:20, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

I did say that, didn't I? Sorry about that. Yes, let's leave "Creator" as a category for other categories only. (We can still add pages to "Creator with a wiki account", though.) --Robkelk (talk) 16:58, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Adding links[edit]

Hello Rob, I received your mail and I hope I reply in the correct way since I'm not use to wiki pages, not yet anyway. I go by the name Pommerlis and I create poses mostly. You do have some of my freebies linked to my Rendo page but I also have exclusive freebies that are only available at Hivewire or at my Blog. I thought I'd send you a link to my blog;

The link to my exclusive freebie page there is here;

I appreciate your effort in creating this wiki, it has helped me alot to find items I had lost and some awesome freebies. I might create a page myself if I figure out how.

Greetz Pommerlis

Thanks for making an account here, and thank you for all the freebies that you've given to everyone! I've made sure that you can add pages to the wiki, if you want to give that a try. I'll have to take a look at your Blogspot page some time soon.
--Robkelk (talk) 15:29, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Oh, this is annoying[edit]

With self-isolation and telecommuting, I have an extra hour a day to do fun things -- and my rendering computer quit on me. Since everybody's telecommuting now, there aren't any replacement computers available in the stores... and with non-essential stores closed, I couldn't go buy one even if one was available at the moment. Ah, well. --Robkelk (talk) 15:08, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

(  :(  :(--Dollygirl (talk) 19:22, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
Ouch! Poor Rob! No onlineshops? Kerya (talk) 05:54, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
I haven't had a chance to look for something good enough to render something but not so good that I can't afford it. --Robkelk (talk) 13:25, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
I now have something good enough to render something - I think. Finding the time to put the software on it, however... (that extra hour a day has been consumed by other things, including some work.) --Robkelk (talk) 11:32, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Sounds good! The good enough to render something part - not the extra hour being consumed by other things. I do understand the time involved in installing everything, my new computer arrived last August, so not that long ago. Kerya (talk) 04:21, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Approving a user[edit]

For a change I don't want to have a user blocked, I would like to approve them (adding useful links to pages is nice!):

I wished I knew how to do that, so I don't have to mark every edit with patrolled.

Kerya (talk) 04:39, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Done! And I've left a step-by-step how-to on your Talk page. --Robkelk (talk) 12:10, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

I'm pretty bad at this wiki talk thing lol, I responded to your message on my talk page a couple days ago. I'm just gonna copy/paste it here.

Hello. Thanks for having me here. I hope this is the correct way to respond, I couldn't figure it out earlier.

My preferred store is, I go by the same username there. Let me know if you need more info.

I didn't get an answer to my mail either (I was asking for a Renderosity GC) ... I think Rob is kind of stressed at the moment.
Kerya (talk) 06:18, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
Sorry about that - my job (I'm lucky enough to still have one) is currently related to pandemic response, and that has to come first. I'll get those GCs to both of you some time today. --Robkelk (talk) 13:02, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Oh, I certainly understand. My sister is an RN and hardly has any time away from work these days. Please take your time, there's no rush. I was just unsure if my message went to the right place.

Please check your inboxes... and I'm sorry about the delay. --Robkelk (talk) 01:38, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! I got mine. Take care of yourself, please. Kerya (talk) 04:56, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

I got mine too, thank you. I'll put it to good use. Stay safe out there.

About that highlight project[edit]

Well last weekend I played with your highlight template but it no workie. Do you have something more up your sleeve?--Dollygirl (talk) 17:54, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Not yet... I'll do more experimenting next month, when I'll have time to give it serious attention. --Robkelk (talk) 17:56, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
Sounds good--Dollygirl (talk) 17:58, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Are we doing a party this year?[edit]

Questioning minds are wondering--Dollygirl (talk) 17:58, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

We should, shouldn't we? Any ideas for a theme? --Robkelk (talk) 18:11, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
I think so. We still have 8,000 pages that need images. Let's do a group think and see what we can come up with. Kerya and Glaseye could have some good ideas.--Dollygirl (talk) 18:43, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
My old brain is still hurting from the highlight-'problem' LoL. So no idea yet...... But then, in the previous parties, I never did stick to the theme anyway. I guess if there is to be a theme, then don't emphasize on it. We don't want to scare of artists because they don't like the theme or don't have/use any of the freebies related to the theme. After all, the goal is to illustrate this wiki (hmm, when was the last time I uploaded an image here .... ouch) --Glaseye (talk) 20:24, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
So, "Freebies that we don't have images for". The theme needs a better name... 😀 (And I still need to let Daz Central download a copy of Studio for my current computer, so that I can take part this year. ouch x2)
Also, I must remember to say that participants can only get one GC each, no matter how many times I draw their names. That was almost an embarrassment last year. And the wiki founder isn't eligible. (If I'm buying the GCs, there's no point in giving one to myself, after all.) --Robkelk (talk) 20:40, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
Maybe keep it simple?
- Annual render festival?
- Render up a storm (with as subtitle: and help to clean up (/out?) those empty / image-less pages)?
Just some suggestion to get the brain'storm' going.....
--Glaseye (talk) 21:14, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

And we still haven't announced this, what with one thing or another. <sigh> It's too late for August, and September is "back to work" or "back to school" in North America... Should we wait until November, so that the gift cards can be used for Christmas presents? --Robkelk (talk) 14:22, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

Same here in Europe. November sounds about right to/for me. --Glaseye (talk) 15:13, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
I may not be around then to support the party. That is when I get my family's Christmas gifts put together. I do the holiday baking, candy making for their Christmas bags. Then there is getting ready for the feast days. And I am in the middle of making an interactive book for one of my granddaughters. So I am willing to put cash in the kitty but I can not really commit to helping with the day to day stuff. Up to you guys. With no Kerya this may be hard to do.--Dollygirl (talk) 17:11, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
We're getting more help on the other big wiki where I'm an admin, so I can afford to spend more time here now. Not as much time as Kerya could, but it's something. --Robkelk (talk) 17:26, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
What about Kerya? Did I miss something? (Yes, I noticed she hasn't posted laltely; if it is something that is not to be discussed here I can understand that) --Glaseye (talk) 17:30, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
She isn't feeling well at the moment, and can't sit for long enough to use the computer except to check her mail. Fingers crossed that she'll be better soon... --Robkelk (talk) 17:48, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
So what big wiki are you admin to? can I go see it please?--Dollygirl (talk) 19:43, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
It's called "All The Tropes", and anybody can go see it. They were kind enough to give us a link on their main page years ago, so I thought I'd help out... and I worked my way up to admin. --Robkelk (talk) 19:48, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
Maybe a bit off-topic, but I'd say that the description on 'allthetropes' of this wiki is a bit misleading; here "we" do not provide free resources, but info and links to those resources.. --Glaseye (talk) 22:14, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

Oopsie... we were going to do this now, weren't we? Is it too late for 2021? --Robkelk (talk) 15:35, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

As mentioned earlier, Dollygirl may not be available for help, and I'm not exactly the most active user/editor. So I guess it mostly comes down to who does do what and when. But adding entries to a list and/or correcting entries were needed (as was done last year) doesn't seem to be too much of a time consumer, so if need be I can assist there. (I may not be that active, but generally do check the site at least once a day... As for a theme, I guess just keep it 'general' --Glaseye (talk) 21:59, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
Sooo, I guess not this year..... ? --Glaseye (talk) 19:07, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
Aargh. I guess not. It doesn't seem right to have a party without Kerya, too. (I still haven't heard back from her, after sending her another email last month.) --Robkelk (talk) 19:19, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

I wonder how long it takes to initialize this...[edit]

Let's see how long it takes the wiki to set up this extension to Special:Search. --Robkelk (talk) 01:10, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Somewhere between two and eleven hours, apparently. But now we have a substantially more versatile search ability. --Robkelk (talk) 12:40, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
And now we're back to just the standard Search ability. The expanded ability needs an add-in that we can't run because it's too resource-intensive. --Robkelk (talk) 19:22, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

The mystery of the yummy donut[edit]

So just in case someone makes a page for the yummy donut. Are you the creator? There is no readme file and your link goes directly to the zip. It is a wonderful donut. I like the pink icing and sprinkles. Oh and the star hole.--Dollygirl (talk) 18:39, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

No, I'm not the creator. The creator goes by the name "classicdrogn" on this forum that usually doesn't discuss 3D-art, but there's a single thread where it's on-topic there. --Robkelk (talk) 00:26, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
Good to know. Thank you!--Dollygirl (talk) 07:36, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Color accessibility[edit]

Hey Rob – seems like you're the head of things around here? Good to meet you. I wanted to touch base about the color changes to File Formats, because I was actually changing the colors with accessibility in mind: the colors produced by using human-readable names are fairly saturated, which can cause problems with text readability regardless of color vision and result in eye strain. When I picked the shades I used on the table, I ran them through Coolors' color picker, which contains some colorblindness checkers further down the page as well as contrast checkers.

The HTML-5 compliant colors don't seem as visible as they could be, with the default red being the most inaccessible (only 3/5 visibility on a black background, and one form of colorblindness turns it dark gray, which makes black text unreadable). The hex codes I used leave something to be desired with certain forms of colorblindness, I'll admit that, but they don't seem to have the same contrast issues – do you get different results when using another tool? I'm happy to fix that if so. For reference, here's what I see using Coolors:

What are your thoughts? Radiiant (talk) 22:33, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi Radiiant! I asked for the wiki to be created, but that just means I'm the contact person - it's pretty much a cooperative venture now. Which is why I'd prefer to hear from at least a few other people before changing things... :) As for the particular colours, I keep getting different advice. So, what do other editors think? --Robkelk (talk) 12:37, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
Welcome Radiant. I am pretty weak when it comes to this type of issue. Me. personally, I would be cautious in changing that type of code, 1 because I am not color blind and 2 I have not a clue what the support from Miraheze is or would be. I do think Rob is our go to man for this type of decision, even if he is being modest. He has the connections, the knowledge and the ability to change the code in such a way that meets the access and support requirements as mentioned above. Just my two cents. I have not seen Glaseye or Kerya in here for a while. Hope they see this discussion. --Dollygirl (talk) 18:36, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
I don't want to detract from anyone else's thoughts, and I'm okay with letting Rob make the final decision, but I can speak to some of the technical support stuff if you'd like? Miraheze wikis are powered by MediaWiki, which is the same software that powers Wikipedia, and it definitely supports the ability to adjust the colors in tables like this. When you put in the name of a color, it tells the webpage to use a specific hex code that's assigned to that name: e.g., if you tell it to use "white," it will use #FFFFFF, the hex code for white. Most hex codes don't have a human-readable label, so they can be confusing when you're looking at the text in the editor, but they'll still work on the actual page. (You can see the hex-code colors in action here, on the old version of the page – if it wasn't supported, it'd just display the default wikitable colors.) I'm also happy to look for some resources regarding colorblindness and general web accessibility, if anyone thinks that would help... I was part of an accessibility-related redesign project on another wiki some years back, so I know those resources exist, but I'd need to find them again! Radiiant (talk) 21:21, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
Miraheze would just say it's a local issue and tell us to work it out locally. (At least, that's what they do for other wikis.) If you can find those project notes again, I'll happily read them - no doubt technology has advanced over the years. --Robkelk (talk) 21:38, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
@Dollygirl, yep I'm seeing the discussion (obviously :) ) Haven't got much to add to it though. Having said that, looking at the format list as it is now, I do find it easy on the eyes, at least on my system, with my monitor settings and my preference for more soft colours..... --Glaseye (talk) 16:44, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Notes from the accessibility redesign project[edit]

Sorry for the delay – this was scattered through various emails/posts and took awhile to find. Pushing these notes to their own subsection to separate them from previous discussion.

The project largely referred to the W3 Web Accessibility Initiative's recommendations; in the case of color contrast, they recommend a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 between text and a background color, with a bare minimum ratio of 3:1. They generally don't recommend use of specific colors for colorblindness-related accessibility, as "color deficiencies are so diverse that prescribing effective general use color pairs (for contrast) based on quantitative data is not feasible." Instead, they advise focusing on luminance contrast – i.e., how dark or light is the text/background without regard to the color or subjective brightness. They only specifically recommend against red on black, because those are both low-luminance colors and won't have sufficient contrast.

I plugged each color into one of the contrast checkers linked by W3. Most of them passed, but the default red is pushing it. The hex codes I used also have significantly higher contrast ratios than the default HTML colors (with the exception of the yellow, where the difference is minute).

In that project, we also had a graphic designer advise against using neons. They don't necessarily cause issues for colorblind users, but they can be painful for the non-colorblind users to look at, so they should be used sparingly (if at all). Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but I personally am slightly sensitive to saturated colors, and looking at the default yellow (particularly when I have my computer's blue light filter on) feels a bit like getting punched in the eye by a highlighter. :)

Okay, I'll stop here. Please excuse the mini-essay... I am not the most concise! Radiiant (talk) 02:05, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, Radiiant. The advice has definitely changed since I wrote the first version of the page. Go ahead and change the colours; you know better than I do here. --Robkelk (talk) 13:47, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, Rob – done. If anyone disagrees with the change or has further thoughts/information to share, I'm still open to discussion. Radiiant (talk) 16:58, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
It 'works' very well for me in combination with the 'Dark mode' for the screen setting (personally I'm not very fond of the wiki's 'Default mode' but the colours work well in that mode as well). --Glaseye (talk) 18:37, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Horizontal lists seem broken here[edit]

Hey Rob, nothing urgent, just might be worth looking into for formatting purposes. The {{hlist}} template is supposed to create horizontal lists (e.g., 1 • 2 • 3), but we're missing necessary code for it here, so it's just creating normal bulleted lists. From what I can tell, we'd need to enable the TemplateStyles extension, but unfortunately I'm not quite savvy enough to figure out the next steps... the hlist template on MediaWiki relies mostly on TemplateStyles, but the same template on Wikipedia mostly relies on a module, so I'm not entirely sure what pages we'd need to import or edit to get horizontal lists working here. If it's possible for this wiki to handle TemplateStyles, would you know what we need to fiddle with to make {{hlist}} work, or know where on Miraheze to find someone who can help? Radiiant (talk) 17:31, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi Radiiant. I never implemented hlist here - there wasn't a need for it before now. I'll need to look into that later (probably tomorrow). --Robkelk (talk) 17:42, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
Well, a day later than I expected. hlist should be working now. --Robkelk (talk) 23:16, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
No worries – thank you. I gave it a try, but am still getting normal bulleted lists... I'll poke around and see if I can figure out what's going on. Radiiant (talk) 16:22, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
